Croydon Liberal Democrat Manifesto 2010
Transport

We pledge:
- To protect, improve and extend bus lanes where they will be effective, and to protect and improve bus services where they are needed, including night buses
- To press for the introduction of 1-hour bus tickets, saving money for people who need to take more than one bus to reach their destination
- To support the introduction of more trams so as to tackle congestion on the existing network
- To put pressure on Tory mayor Boris Johnson to restart the extension of Tramlink to Crystal Palace, which he cancelled, and to support longer-term extension of Tramlink to other areas in and around the borough
- To press for more carriages on overcrowded trains
- To press for the expansion of East Croydon station, adding an extra platform and providing much better pedestrian access to the station
- To provide secure bicycle parking facilities at stations, tram stops and other urban hubs
- To improve the safety of existing cycle paths and to extend the cycle path network
- To make neighbourhood streets quieter and safer by creating 20mph neighbourhood zones where local residents want them, and by supporting effective traffic calming methods - too many children die on Croydon's roads, and it's getting worse
- To press for better rail links from Croydon and South London to Heathrow and to future High Speed lines north of London, and for Waterloo's disused Eurostar platforms to be brought back into use for domestic services
