Liberal Democrats in Croydon South were the only major party to increase their percentage of the vote.
Both Labour and Tories dropped, and there was a 2% swing from Tories to Lib Dems, which was against the national trend.
"On polling day, Richard Ottaway's support was 10 per cent below expectations as supporters put principles above party loyalty in reaction to the expenses issue," says Lib Dem Candidate Simon Rix.
The Lib Dems took second place, putting the party in a strong position, especially if the next election is fought under Proportional Representation.
Elected MP: Richard Ottaway, Conservative (28,684 votes)
