Croydon Central Liberal Democrats were the only major party to increase their percentage of the vote in a campaign notable for spirited bickering between Independent MP Andrew Pelling and the Conservative Party from which he had split.
Peter Lambell, Lib Dem Candidate for Croydon Central says, "Ours was the only major party to increase their percentage of the vote. We benefitted by a swing in support from both traditional Labour and Conservative voters who wanted change from the old politics as usual."
The Lib Dems took third place in Croydon Central on a slate featuring 10 candidates.
Elected MP: Gavin Barwell, Conservative (19,657 votes)
