Making Democracy Open and Local

Croydon Town Hall

We pledge:

To consult and to be transparent about plans and costings
To reduce councillor allowances, and bring them into line with the Greater London average
To establish Local Area Committees with their own budgets, so local residents can be involved in making real decisions about their areas.
Instead of the council deciding how to spend these budgets on local needs, these decisions would be made by local residents, so there would be little extra cost.

Croydon's councillor allowances are currently the highest in Greater London. The percentage of residents in Croydon who think that local public services act on the concerns of local residents is average. In Sutton, it's in the best 20% ⁴.
