Liberal Democrats are celebrating in South London after local elections saw numerous successes in many boroughs:
In Surrey, just beyond Greater London, the Lib Dems are now the largest party in Woking and are the main opposition in Reigate & Banstead, Mole Valley and Tandridge councils.
In Croydon, Labour was swept from power. The Lib Dem vote held firm across the borough but Cllr Ian Atkins lost in Coulsdon East, after 8 years of flying the Lib Dem flag in the council chamber.
"I've enjoyed working hard for the people of Coulsdon and Old Coulsdon," said Ian, "We'll be fighting to protect services against the new Tory council. We'll be back in Coulsdon."
