In a lively 3-party debate in front of over 100 local business people, Simon Hargrave set out the Croydon Liberal Democrats' plans for Croydon at the Croydon Business forum.
Hosted by Wing Yip to celebrate the Chinese New Year (the year of the Dog), Simon argued that only the Lib Dems offer Croydon an imaginative yet costed way forward. After delivering a well-received speech, he took questions from the audience.
The Lib Dem's proposals for Croydon include:
* Developing an infrastructure of advice and support to help and attract local businesses
* Expanding door-to-door recycling, installing more street bins and using less landfill
* Restricting new licences in central Croydon
* Developing and enhancing Fairfield Halls and the surrounding area
* Supporting the extension of Tramlink and looking into the feasibility of short-term free parking at certain times
* Support for the development of the Crosfield Sheltered Workshop
Also putting their cases were Councillor Tim Pollard, Tory Finance spokesperson, and Labour Council Leader Tony Newman.
Whilst Councillor Pollard's speech generated no questions from the audience, Simon's speech prompted several, which he answered in full. Councillor Newman was asked several questions, most of which echoed points made by Simon, such as the status of the Fairfield Halls and drink-related disorder in central Croydon.
