Crosfield provides employment for almost 100 disabled people
Croydon Liberal Democrats have pledged to provide support to the Crosfield Sheltered Workshop in order to keep it open.
Lib Dem Councillors voted against the majority Labour group's decision to withdraw financial support for the organisation, which provides work for almost 100 disabled people.
"When the Government are seeking to remove people from Incapacity Benefit, the Labour group's decision seem extraordinary, as well as callous," says campaigner Simon Hargrave.
"The Labour group has even refused to delay the decision to at least enable the organisation to turn itself around and attract new business," says Simon. "If this decision goes ahead, the proportion of disabled people amongst the council's 10,000 employees will fall to just 1%."
As well as voting for the workshop in the council chamber, Croydon Lib Dems are featuring the issue in their campaign material, writing to the press and speaking about the issue in public.
